How to pick the right size mirror | Part 3

Part 3 we focus on picking the right size mirror for the entryway

How to pick a mirror for the entryway

The entryway really sets the tone for a visitor’s first impression and what they might expect when they enter a home. Whether your entryway is big or small, it’s always worth investing a little time and money into some furniture and accessories that really make it look great. Mirrors are perfect for entryways because they help brighten things up by reflecting light (even when there aren’t many windows nearby) and create the illusion that the space is actually bigger than it really is.

If you are thinking about decorating your entryway by pairing foyer tables with complimentary mirrors, you need to choose the right size and shape.

  • Rectangular or Oval Mirrors – Foyer tables are generally between 30 to 36 inches high. Mirrors should be approximately the same height, but can be six inches taller or shorter. The width of mirrors should be between 50- to 75-percent of the length of foyer tables.
  • Square – Square mirrors look heavier than their rectangular counterparts, which pairs well with large-scale furniture. Square mirrors look excellent with lengthy consoles that are 48 inches or longer.
  • Round Mirrors – Just as with any mirror, the size of the foyer table dictates the height of the mirror. Entryways should avoid round mirrors that are less than 20 inches. To achieve the ideal size, mirrors should only be a few inches from the top of the console to the bottom of the mirror.

Another popular place to place a mirror is above an entryway or hallway console table.

How to size a mirror over a console table

This mirror should be hung around six to eight inches higher than the table itself to create a small gap between your table decor and the mirror.

Round mirrors, square mirrors and rectangular mirrors work best for above a console table.
